FilBetter Project : Towards a Greener Future

Taiwan ranks among the top nations in resource recycling. However, awareness about plastic cigarette filters still needs broader outreach. Littered filters not only harm land environments and public health but are also a significant pollutant to our oceans.

We’re honored to contribute to FilBetter, an environmental harm-reduction initiative. Born from a commitment to address known environmental issues without creating new pollutants, the project aims to "reuse waste for waste." This journey began with a focus on the connection between cigarette filters and the ocean, examining ways to repurpose filters with minimal composite materials to embody a cradle-to-cradle philosophy. Our designs avoid traditional screws or adhesives, ensuring every aspect considers waste and recyclability.

In the first phase, we selected ocean waste-recycled panels to create our filter collection boxes, addressing cigarette butts—among the top three pollutants in global ocean debris. Through this material choice, we aim to help users see the impact of intercepting cigarette filters before they reach the ocean, effectively reducing marine waste. Our solution is safe, convenient, and designed for sustainable circular reuse.
