In Changlong Village, there stands an old guard booth that has accompanied the neighborhood patrol team for many years. Though modest and easily overlooked, it carries the everyday routines and collective memories of the community. This renovation is not merely about refreshing its appearance, but about transforming this familiar corner into a scene that residents will pause to notice once again.
The core of the transformation lies in the use of recycled marine waste panels—materials that once drifted in the ocean, now given a second life within the village. Through the re-composition of Hakka cultural imagery such as tung blossoms, persimmons, and cyanotype motifs, combined with hand-painted colors that add cultural depth, the materials retain their oceanic memory while becoming part of daily local life.
The final outcome is more than a renovated booth; it is a small public space that connects culture, sustainability, and the everyday lives of the community.
