Technology Building, Hakka Fangkou Lion: Bringing the Ocean’s Second Life into the City

Amid the daily flow of commuters at Technology Building MRT Station, you might unknowingly brush past a lion. This is not an ordinary art installation—it is crafted from recycled marine waste panels, precisely processed, color-transferred, and culturally interpreted, standing in the city once again in a completely new form.

The Fangkou Lion carries stories from the coastline. What was once discarded in the ocean has been recycled and transformed into materials with texture, color, and weight. When these materials are seen again in the heart of the city, they quietly remind us that sustainability doesn’t need to be loudly proclaimed—it can naturally enter everyday sightlines.

This installation is not only a symbol of safeguarding local culture but also Taiwan’s first public artwork fully printed in full color using marine waste materials. Standing along the commuter path, it creates a momentary connection between culture and environmental awareness.

Let the ocean’s second life become part of the city’s everyday scenery.
